Supporting Schools and Teachers

Since 2001, the Department of Education and Training has provided interested schools and teachers with professional support on Middle Years teaching and learning approaches. A number of teachers have also attended workshops, forums and conferences focussing on teaching and learning practices in the Middle Years. Some secondary and primary schools have worked together to share their experiences and knowledge about Middle Years.

The department has an ongoing commitment to the professional learning of teachers and school staff.

Different teachers have different professional learning needs in the Middle Years. Wherever possible, professional development for teachers will occur on-site in schools to minimise disruption to student learning.

Each school will develop a professional development plan to ensure that teachers are fully prepared to implement the Middle Years approach.
