A day in the life of...Nightcliff Middle School Year 8 student RhyssWednesday, 10 October 2007 School starts at 8 am at Nightcliff Middle School. On Wednesdays we have assembly where the teachers talk about all the new things happening in our school. This week is Mental Health Week, so they told us all about that and student wellbeing. Some of the kids are planning to travel to Italy next year so they have begun fund raising to cover the costs. |

Today my first lesson was Maths with Mr Tumuls. He’s really good and funny. I’m thinking about becoming a computer technician, so I need to get good at Maths and Science. At the moment we’re doing algebra. It’s not that difficult, but as we progress it will get a bit harder. It’s one of my favourite subjects. |

Next up was English. We read a poem by Tim Winton. Then we talked about the person in the poem and what he was like and where he lived. I thought that the way the author described him was a bit strange. |

At recess I caught up with my friends and played handball. I also went to the canteen which is very popular. |

The next lesson was Communications, which is about understanding how the world works and what everything means. Today we went to a computer room and logged onto a virtual game about handling changes, making decisions and solving problems. |

At 11.30 am we had Exhibition where I have been making an Egyptian plaque out of plaster and water. I have carved a drawing from Egypt on the plaster and painted it. I find art easy to do and a lot of fun. |

Lunch starts at 12.30 pm. I played more hand ball, ate lunch and just had a lot of fun with my mates, which is one of the best things about school. I have a lot of mates who back you up and help you out. |

Many of the students went swimming after lunch because the Swimming Carnival is coming up soon. But not everyone had to go. I went to Integrated where we are studying ‘The Power of Media’. |

One of the other subjects that I think is really good is drumming (music). We have drumming tomorrow with Mr Beamsley. I started playing drums in Year 6, but here we learn new beats and rhythms, which is pretty good. |

I like Nightcliff Middle School a lot. I think school is a fun and exciting place where you get to hang out with friends. You also get to discuss and learn new things – and try out a lot of stuff that you wouldn’t usually do. I like the hands-on things and would like to do a computer course. |
| 2.30pm - School finishes and I caught the bus home. At home I played some online computer games. One day I would like to develop my own computer game but I need to get the right software. | |
